The LightLouver Daylighting System helps save energy in any new or existing building by reducing the requirement for artificial lighting and cooling. Window treatments resembling miniblinds redirect sunlight onto the ceiling from overhead windows, to a depth of up to sixty feet from the window wall! The average annual illuminance contribution within this "daylit zone" is thirty foot candles, allowing for electric lights to be turned off or dimmed most of the time. The specialized geometry of the reflective slats is such that the product accepts sunlight from any solar altitude angle and redirects it between zero and fifteen degrees upward, providing an ambient and glare free source of natural sunlight to areas of a building that would otherwise be dependent on electric light. Because the product is a window treatment and not a traditional light shelf, total solar control is achieved, and there is never any possibility of uncomfortable solar glare on the work surfaces. Due to the fact that sunlight always carries less heat than electric light, the cooling load of the building is also reduced by the use of LightLouver in that electric lighting is supplemented with natural daylight.
