About Birch & Willow

  • Birch & Willow is a green woman-owned small business in Boston, Massachusetts that creates limited edition and one-of-a-kind lamps and luminaries from saplings, vines, twigs, stones and other naturally harvested materials. Birch & Willow's designs are inspired by the natural play between light and shadow.

Founded in 1997, Birch & Willow is proud to be in the forefront of the emerging field of green design. Birch & Willow was among the first lighting companies to use organic recyclable natural materials and environmentally conscientious manufacturing processes.

In the course of developing her product line of sophisticated eco-friendly lamps and luminaries, Katherine Ahern, owner and designer, has acquired substantial expertise in the aesthetics of natural lighting, energy efficiency and emerging lighting technologies. In addition to creating and selling lighting fixtures, Birch & Willow offers consulting services to help homeowners, designers and architects to navigate their way through the often confusing world of green issues and products to achieve lighting that is beautiful, evocative of nature and environmentally responsible.
